This is the one thing I want you to know: It’s okay not to be okay.
Don’t mask your feelings or suppress them so others won’t notice. You don’t have to pretend that you’re happy when you’re not or that you are totally okay when you’re actually struggling or even suffering inside. We’re humans who experience a great diversity of emotions and whether they are good, bad or something in between, they’re always equally valid.
I’ve been there and know how you’re feeling. I know how bad it feels to wake up and realize how hard it is to do anything that even the thought of getting out of bed gives you anxiety. I know that feeling of dread because it seems like you will be stuck forever and not accomplish a single thing because everything feels like it’s out of control. So please believe when I tell you that you’re not a failure for feeling this way, it can happen to anyone. It actually happens to a lot of people and it has also happen to me.
In the end, everything comes to acceptance so acknowledge how you’re feeling, then you will be able to move on and make progress. Feeling the way you do and accepting that does not make any you less of a person. In fact it makes you stronger to accept your struggles so you can learn from them and use them to move forward.
Know that you’re not alone, even when you’re at your lowest feeling like you’re completely on your own in this, you’re not. You’ll be amazed at how, more often than not, people are willing to listen and offer you their support. Even when you’re not feeling like talking to anyone, there would always be someone willing to just be there no questions asked.
Also, don’t think how you’re feeling is permanent because it’s not and I promise it will get better. Situations are only temporary, everything changes. Let moments be exactly that and let them pass.
And finally, breathe! When everything looks like it’s getting out of hand and you’re feeling like a total mess, just stop for a second. Take a moment to calm your mind, take a deep breath and just let the air fill your lungs and bring you back to the present. It’s completely okay to not be okay, it’ doesn’t mean that there’s something wrong with you or that you’re broken, it only means you’re human.
